Jorn Kirkeby

The exhibition JORN / KIRKEBY is based on the artists' picturesque production. It will take the form of a number of themes, which highlight the two artists' relationship to, among other things, frivolous painting, classicism, eroticism, the landscape and self-portraits. Jorn and Kirkeby were from different generations, and they never met. Yet there are a number of communities of interest in their art that ARoS wants to show by exhibiting them together. The exhibition will highlight a spiritual and theoretical kinship between the two artists, where the similarity does not necessarily exist in the immediate and recognizable. At the same time, it will illuminate the difference in spectrum from Jorn's violent, untamed abstractions to Kirkeby's thoughtful, intellectual and controlled abstractions.
