Lorna was a very ordinary girl, with an ordinary job, who found it hard to make ends meet for herself and her mother. Then, quite by chance, she met two men who came from very different backgrounds from her own: Hugo Fairfax, a famous author, and John Courtenay, a rich banker - and somehow, she found, all their paths were crossing, and both men began to take more than a little interest in her. John, in fact, wanted to marry her - although it was clear that whatever Hugo had to offer, it wasn't marriage! Could Lorna really expect to be happy with either man?
